Collection of Contemporary Art
The collection was formed in 2001. Owing to the nature of works of art in the beginning of a century, there was a need to form a new collection. Art tendencies are totally different from the phenomena that were present on the art scene during the longer period of the second half of the 20th century, so the new works can’t represent the whole with other works of art from the Yugoslav painting collection. Taking into account these facts, that made a decision for the works of art that would be coming into the Gallery fund, which would be done after 2001, to put in the newly-formed collection named Contemporary Art. At the moment, the Contemporary Art collection comprises about 96 exhibits which mainly belong to the prints and video works, although there are other art branches – objects, installations and other artifacts in combined techniques. The collection also includes works of classical art disciplines (photography, graphics, paintings…).
The collection includes the works that mainly depict psychological, philosophical and socioeconomic views on the contemporary world recast into the new art media and done with contemporary technical- technological means. (Miodrag Krkobabić, Mileta Prodanović, Čedomir Vasić, Dragana Žarevac, Аna Knežević, Ana Krstić, Mrđan Bajić, Radomir Damnjanović Damnjan, Zdravko Joksimović, Aleksandar Rafajlović…and several artwork from foreighn artista – Valentin Stefanoff/ Bulgaria, Petra Maitz/ Austria, Edin Numankadaić/ Bosnia…))
There are ideas and pretensions (for now) that the works of “new views” from the beginning of this century to merge systematically into a unique collection. The art works are themselves are the product of the current visual arts production, аs mirror of time, just emphasizing the all heterogeneity, incompatibility, authenthic authorial imagination, commitment and all specifics related to the modern turbulent world.
